When you visit the site

The server that delivers the pages keeps a short technical log (IP address, time and page requested) to keep the site running and secure. We do not use it to identify you, and it is deleted after a limited time.

Analytics

We use PostHog to see how the site is used: which pages are visited, how visitors arrive (the site or link they came from), the kind of browser and device, the approximate location, and what is clicked. PostHog does not store your IP address; at most it keeps the approximate location (country and city) worked out from it. PostHog processes the data for us and stores it in the EU.

On your first visit, a bar at the foot of the screen asks whether we may use cookies for analytics. Until you answer, and if you decline, we count visits without cookies. Nothing is stored in your browser except your answer, which is kept in local storage as “boilergreen_analytics_consent” so that we don't ask again. To tell visits apart, PostHog makes an anonymous code from the IP address and the browser that changes every day, so a visitor who comes back on another day is not recognised.

If you accept, PostHog keeps a random identifier in a cookie and in your browser's storage, under names that start with “ph_”, so that we can recognise you when you come back. We may then also record your visit as a session recording: the pages you see, scrolling, mouse movement and clicks, so that we can find where the site is hard to use. Anything you type is hidden in the recording. Unless you accept, nothing is recorded.

The legal basis for the cookie and the recordings is your consent. For counting visits without cookies, it is our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used. We keep analytics data for as long as it helps us improve the site and the portal, and delete it when it no longer does.

You can change your answer at any time with “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page. If you withdraw your consent, the cookie and the identifier are deleted. Clearing this site's data in your browser also removes the cookie and your answer, and we ask again on your next visit.

BoilerCloud customer portal

BoilerCloud, our customer portal, uses PostHog the same way. Until you accept, use is counted without cookies. If you accept, it is linked to your user account (never your name or email) and may be recorded, with everything on screen hidden. You can change your answer under “Analytics choices” in the portal.

When you email or call us

We use your name, contact details and what you tell us about your plant to answer you and follow up the conversation. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or steps you ask for before a contract. We keep the correspondence as long as the conversation is relevant, and delete it when you ask us to, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, and object to how we use it. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
